A 30-member Community-Based Anti-Poaching Unit (CBAPU) from all buffer zones of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (KTWR) has been successfully formed in Koshi Province following a dedicated two-day capacity enhancement training last week.
During the program Bhupendra Yadav (Senior Conservation Officer, KTWR), Major Prakash Khadka (Nepal Army), Mithlesh Mahato (Assistant Warden, KTWR), Birendra Gautam (In-charge, NTNC Koshi Conservation Centre), Ashok Subedi (Senior Conservation Officer, NTNC), and Gobinda Prasad Pokharel (Conservation Officer, NTNC) gave the presentations on combatting wildlife crime and the role of CBAPUs in anti-poaching activities.
Throughout the sessions, participants took part in hands-on experiential and field training focuesed on the role of CBAPUs in combatting wildlife crime, received essential field gear, and shared valuable local experiences. Furthermore, an internal mechanism was successfully established to streamline the rapid dissemination of wildlife crime-related information directly with park and security authorities.
