PM's visit to Lho Manthang, Mustang District

The Right Honorable Prime Minister and Patron of the National Trust for Nature Conservation Madhav Kumar Nepal, Honorable Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation and Chairman of the Trust Deepak Bohara, Chief Advisor of the Prime Minister Raghuji Pant, Constituent Assembly members Honorable Chandra Bahadur Gurung and Honorable Tashi Gurungsyani, immediate past member of the parliament Shreemaya Thakali, Member Secretary of the Trust Juddha Bahadur Gurung made a on-site visit to the Lho Manthang Unit Conservation Office (LMUCO) of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). During the visit, the team inspected the border with China and the officiating in charge Mr. Ram Gurung briefed the team about the various activities being implemented by LMUCO. The team visited the Chode, Jamba and Thubchen monasteries along with visit to the community library and monastic school. The students of the monastic school gave a huge welcome to the team and the teachers and monks of the school briefed the team about the school. The team visited the traditional Raja of Mustang Jigme Parbal Bista and his family at his historical and cultural palace. The Prime Minister directed to provide support for the renovation of the palace. The Prime Minister on his arrival in Lho Manthang was heartily greeted by the local people with khatas and garlands. The people voiced their local problems related to development and infrastructure to the Prime Minister. After visit to Lho Manthang, the Prime Minister visited the Muktinath and inspected the Ani nunnery and directed to provide support for repair of the monastery. The local government employees, civil society representatives of the various political parties welcomed the Prime Minister and members of the team upon their arrival at Jomsom, the headquarters of Mustang district. During the interaction program held in Jomsom with government employees and civil society, the civil society stressed on issues of sustainable development, motorable road, collection of non-timber forest products and their export from the district, and tourism development. During the program, the Member Secretary Juddha Bahadur Gurung informed that the Trust had already prepared policy document on sustainable development plan of Mustang district and non-timber forest products sustainable harvesting plan for the Annapurna Conservation Area. The Prime Minister directed the government employees to dedicate themselves to serve the people and stressed on need for local community to plant trees.
