NTNC's Conservation and Research Center Inaugurated
The Conservation and Research Centre of the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) constructed under the bilateral support of the Government of the People’s of China was formally handed over to the Honorable Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation and the Chairman of the National Trust for Nature Conservation Mr. Deepak Bohara by His Excellency Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Qui Guohong amidst a programme on February 9, 2010. Located at Khumaltar in Lalitpur district, the building complex spreads over 35 ropanis and was built at cost of Rs 35 crores.
Inaugurating the newly constructed building, the Right Honorable Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Patron of the Trust said "Environmental degradation has been a global issue and we are facing environmental challenges from the impact of climate change; as such, conservation efforts would be a solution to combat climate change; the NTNC should use this centre widely and wisely for conservation of natural resources." He also emphasized on forming an alliance of mountainous countries to raise voice in the global arena against the effects of climate change and Nepal would play a vital role in this regard.
The Chinese Government had signed an Agreement with the Government of Nepal in 2005 and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ laid the foundation stone on May 4, 2008. The construction was completed at the end of December 2009. The Government of Nepal had provided the land for the building.
Honorable Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation and Chairman of the Trust, Mr. Deepak Bohara heartily thanked the Chinese Government for the support and said, "This is the first project funded by the Chinese Government in the conservation sector and this has encouraged us to request for further support in nature conservation efforts”.
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, His Excellency Qui Guohong, expressed his commitment on embarking on similar projects in near future and emphasized that this contribution of the Chinese Government would play an important role in nature conservation in Nepal.
Speaking on the occasion, the Member Secretary Juddha Bahadur Gurung said that this resource has created a pressure on us to work more rigorously in the conservation field and assured that this resource would be used optimally and wisely to address the emerging conservation and climate change challenges
